Prologue
In
the dark alleyway, two teenagers walked side by side away from the busy street
and into a dark alleyway. Their features were shadowed by the light behind
them. On the opposite end of the alley, another teenager barely a few years
approached them. This older teen had light brown hair and had a black cap that
was pulled down low to cover his eyes. Both of his hands were tucked deep in
the pockets of his black leather jacket. Around his neck hung a leather cord
with a bronze charm in the shape of a hawk that gleamed dully. They all stopped
in the middle and turned so that their backs faced opposite walls. The light
now shone on the younger teens revealing a girl with semi-long black hair and a
boy with slightly long, white-blonde hair. The older boy pushed back his hat to
reveal his dark green eyes.
Without
saying a word the girl hugged the brown-haired boy and the younger boy soon
following suit. Both of them returned to their original position. No verbal
greeting passed between any of them. The only sound was from the cars driving
past on the street. The older boy looked
into the eyes of the other two. The three of them spoke volumes of words with
that look. Younger teens broke the eye contact and the older boy gently grabbed
their shoulders.
As his did, his eyes changed to a dark brown
for an instant and an intricate tattoo on his left hand glowed softly. Then
bits and pieces of the ground rose and formed an intricate bracelet around his
right wrist. As the older boy dropped his hands the younger teenagers responded
to his act with the ground. The younger boy’s eyes flashed from blue to gold as
tiny flickers of flame started to appear out of nowhere in a pile of garbage
lying in the alley. A tattoo on his right wrist glowed. The girl’s eye changed
from black to silver and her tattoo on her left wrist shone as a small stream
of water came from her hand and put out the fire. Both of their eyes flashed
again as a two ribbons appear out of thin air making a small hissing sound. One
ribbon was pure white and seemed to be made of light. The other was made of
darkness which made it rather hard to see in the dark alleyway. Both of the
ribbons twisted together and wrapped around the bracelet of the older teen. The
ribbons both sunk into the bracelet leaving it the same as before.
Then
the older boy hugged the younger teens gently and handed them a small package
that he had produced from his jacket. He walked off and disappeared into the
busy street on the opposite side of the alleyway. The eyes of the girl followed
the older boy until he disappeared. The younger boy’s attention was fixated on
the package in his hands. He flipped it over to find a card taped shut on it.
The boy tapped the girl’s shoulder and pointed at the card. The girl picked it
up and opened it. Inside was a handwritten note:
Dear
Kirikaze and Aydin,
This
is probably the last time you will ever met. This is my parting gift to you. I
do believe it is time for me to give this to you. Hope you survive until our
next meeting if we met again. Remember that you are never alone. He and I are
always watching you.
From,
Akumu
The
girl and boy didn't say anything for a while. The girl suddenly noticed a
mysterious person at the end of the ally and shook the boy out of his stupor.
Without saying anything else, the boy tucked the package and card into the
leather satchel he wore. Both of them started to run away from the street.
